★Skiing ＆ Snowboarding ★
The Daisetsu Mountain Range has many rivers which contrast the landscape and are beautiful. It used to be worshiped as“Kamuimintara, a gods playground!”by the Ainu. Mt. Asahidake and Mt. Tokachidake are beautiful resting spots for mountain hikers. In early December, the Santa Present Park and Kamui Ski Links open. The Santa Present Park takes approximately 15 minutes by car from downtown. This ski ground has 6 courses designed to suit any level from beginners to advanced. Kamui Ski Links is one of the largest skiing grounds in the north of Hokkaido. You can enjoy the 9 courses with gondola. There is a free rest house on the mountain top. On very cold days you can witness amazing scenes of diamond dust and silver frost. How romantic! You will experence the rich culture that the region has to offer.
We have Asahikawa City Museum, Asahikawa Museum of Art, Snow Crystal Museum, International Art Museum, Asahikawa Science Center, Yukaraori Folkcraft Museum, KAWAMURA Kaneto Ainu Memorial Hall, Sculpture Museum, Hokkaido Traditional arts and crafts Village, Inoue Yasushi Memorial Hall, Nishiawa Teturo Literature Museum and the Miura Ayako Literature Museum. All these museums are beautiful buildings and some are built in the early 1900s. You will enjoy walking and exploring the buildings.
Tokiwa Park is located in downtown Asahikawa and is only 5 minutes walk
from our Guest House.
The Arashiyama Park is a nature park and consists of a wild plant garden which is decorated with species of trees and flowers. You must see Asahiyama Zoo, which is the northernmost and most popular zoo in Japan. We recommend the seal aquarium, polar bear and penguin aquarium. They are totally CRACKIN!
Don't forget the Asahikawa Winter Festival. It's in early February and gives visitors the chance to enjoy snow sculptures which hold the Guinness World Record of being the largest. You'll see the world ice sculpture competition too. Remember, we have the coldest temperature ever recorded in Japan, -41 degrees Celsius, keep warm!
Hokkaido is known as a hot spring paradise. There is a hot spring that
was found over 150 years ago. Sounkyo is the largest hot spring resort
area in the Mt. Daisetsu National Park. Visitors can take a day trip there
too. Every year (late Jan-Mar) there is the Ice Waterfall Festival. Waterfalls become giant ice columns.
It is very mysterious and illuminated by light in rainbow colours.
Tenninkyo Hot Springs are located on Mt. Asahidake which stands a mighty 2,290m above sea level and is the highest peak in Hokkaido. In the autumn the leaves turn gold, yellow and brown. The mountains are brilliant and beautiful. You'll be surprised at their natural beauty.
Every restaurant in Asahikawa never fails to serve up tasty meals. The secret must be in the freshness of the ingredients. Please try Asahikawa's ramen and fresh fruits and vegetables. Don't miss the seafood too. Everything is natural produce from the Hokkaido heartland.
Why not come and enjoy a warm and friendly stay in our Guest House Asahikawa. We look forward to welcoming you. You may meet some travellers, chat and perhaps try a glass of Okinawan Awamori with us. We are looking forward to seeing you!
